PT-Bond - The new Technology for Solvent Free Bonding
Why is it beneficial to dispense with solvents? Solvents are only auxiliary materials for processing coatings or adhesives. This means that for the actual function - such as adhesion, corrosion protection, etc. - they make no contribution. On the contrary, they make production processes more expensive, since useless material has to be transported, stored and processed. In addition, solvents often lead to tighter labeling of coatings or adhesives because they become harmful to health, hazardous to the environment or flammable.
Here, PlasmaPlus® coating simplifies the process. All different types of materials like plastic, glass, metal, aluminum, etc. can be coated with PlasmaPlus®. Plasma polymerization with the PlasmaPlus® process is already being used successfully for surface coating in a large number of different industrial applications. Herewith PT-Bond coatings assure long-term adhesion.

This PlasmaTalk is the second in a series of three: The first highlighted the basic relationships and uses of Openair-Plasma®, which is the simplest method for cleaning and activation of surfaces, on October 5th, 2021 by Dr. Alexander Knospe. In bonding applications where the Openair approach is not sufficient, the adhesion-promoting layer PT-Bond comes into play and is the main topic of this current PlasmaTalk. Lastly, Dr. Dhia Ben Salem, Team Leader Research and Dr. Daphne Pappas, R&D Manager for Plasmatreat USA will demonstrate how plasma treatments can be used to customize surfaces to meet special material requirements on October 21st, 2021.

Dr. Alexander Knospe studied chemistry and received his doctorate in 2001 on the synthesis of adhesion promoters for metal bonding. At Plasmatreat he set up an application technology department as well as a research and development department, which he managed until 2015. Today he is responsible for innovation and patents. His main focus is on acquisition of innovative and future-oriented funding projects that open up new application possibilities for plasma technology.
